Appreciating Yourself
Nov 18, 2020I was thinking today about back when I was in the corporate world and how frequently I felt under appreciated. I felt like I was doing a lot of things that really helped the company, and helped other people, but wasn't getting the recognition, thank you's, or the accolades that I felt like I deserved.
I'm the type of person that likes to have a lot of accolades, if that's you too, you might be feeling the same way in your corporate job. You might be feeling under appreciated.
One thing I've learned since I've been home and working for myself, is that if I want to be rewarded, and if I want accolades, I've got to do it for myself. When I reflect back, I think, "Why wasn't that the same in my corporate career? Why didn't I thank myself then, like I can thank myself now?".
I just wanted to encourage you today and say, take advantage of the opportunity to thank yourself and to tell yourself you're doing a good job.
When you:
- do something you're proud of
- do something you didn't think you could do
- try something new
- learn something new
- pass a test
- are brave
- give a presentation
Whatever the case may be, if you're doing something that you feel really proud and excited about, and you're hoping that someone will give you accolades , acknowledge you, say thank you, and appreciate you for the things you've done, just remember you can always do that for yourself.
After the week I had last week, creating a lot of marketing materials, creating an entire PowerPoint presentation with over 100 slides, working on the digital course that I'm taking, and learning all sorts of new things about advertising marketing, I decided I needed a little reward.
Join me for a little glass of bubbly and celebrate yourself. Cheers!
