You Have My Permission

goals intentional Dec 04, 2023

When was the last time you allowed yourself to dream…not to dream about what could have been, but to dream about what could be?

If you’re like most wives, mothers, or women in general, dreaming about your future isn’t a top priority at this stage in life.  It’s more likely that you find yourself thinking about what could have, should have, or would have been, if you had made different choices along the way.

But why can’t we make those choices now?  Why can’t we dream about what can be, should be, and will be, when we make intentional choices in our lives today?

Personally, I’ve always been a dreamer.  I’ve had big ideas come and go, some I have pursued, and some I haven’t.  I believe there are dreams that are meant to be dreams, and there are dreams that are meant to be reality.  What I’ve struggled with, and maybe you have too, is how to know the difference.

The older I get, the more I realize that the dreams that continue to pull at your heart, the ones that feel so soothing in your soul, those are real.  They are God’s purpose for your life.  They are the universe speaking to you.  They are the future you are meant to have.

Right now, as you're reading this, what’s tugging on your heart?  What lights your soul on fire?

If you’re like me, it’s hard to let those thoughts loose…to let the mind explore all the possibilities.  Instead, we generally focus on what we don’t want or what’s going wrong.

A few years ago, I was really struggling with feeling unsettled.  I had just switched jobs, a move that was not my choice, which meant I was doing work I didn’t enjoy.  On top of that, I was running the rest of my life at a hectic pace of kids activities, work travel, and side hustles.  I was so busy I didn’t have time to dream, or the energy to pursue anything besides my crazy day to day schedule.

I knew I wanted something different for my life.  In fact, every day when I put my head on my pillow, it was filled with all of the things I should have done, and missed opportunities of what my life was supposed to be.

And then one day I just decided it was enough.

Instead of chasing every opportunity that was put in my path, I decided to start focusing on what I really wanted.

Did I want a high pressure, stressful corporate career?  Did I want to keep climbing the ladder at the bank and creating more chaos for myself?  Did I want to see this scenery every day of my life?  Did I want to spend my days exhausted and unfulfilled?

When I found myself asking these questions, the glimmers of new answers began to show up and I allowed myself to spend time dreaming.  What if…

What if I could see the mountains every day instead of other peoples backyards?  What if I could spend more time with my family doing the activities we love?  What if I could choose how to spend my days?  What if I made time for my health and wellbeing?

Eventually, my ‘what if’s’ turned into ‘yes, please’, and my questions changed to how.  How could I…

As a result, today my life looks very different.  Today I see mountains out every window of my house, every single day.  Today I am there to help my kids with their homework and see them off to bed, almost every night.  Today I am building a new career doing work that inspires and motivates me.  Today I am taking intentional steps forward, to build my dream life…all because I gave myself permission to dream.

If you’re at a point in life where you are feeling unsettled and you are ready to say ‘enough’ to the grind and ‘yes, please’ to a future of your own design, I would love to help.
